Lemon Law Alert! Volvo Recalls Defective Vehicles Again

Volvo has recently announced another recall to fix problems that could pose substantial safety risks.

Most recently, Volvo has announced that it is recalling more than 7,000 vehicles over a potential seat safety defect.  Specifically, Volvo is recalling certain model year 2009 through 2011 S40, S60, V50 and XC60 vehicles that are equipped with power front passenger seats.  The rail detection systems in these particular vehicles were manufactured incorrectly, thereby potentially allowing the passengers to move the seat too far forward, which can result in an injury in the case of an accident.

If you are driving a 2009-2011  S40, S60, V50 or XC60 Volvo with power front passenger seats and have not yet experienced any problems, take your car into an authorized Volvo dealership as soon as possible to take care of this serious safety problem.

In a separate matter, Volvo is also recalling approximately 6,000 of its 2011 model year due to potential engine stalling.  Specifically, on the 2010 Volvo S80, S60, XC70 and XC60, the engine software that controls fuel cutoff function has been programmed to be too sensitive.  This defect can potentially cause the engine idle speed to drop, resulting in a sudden engine stall when braking or coasting in stop-and-go traffic, which can increase the risk of a crash.

If you are driving a 2011 Volvo S80, S60, XC70 or XC60, take your vehicle to an authorized Volvo dealership who will install updated software in order to correct the problem.

If you are driving any of the above-mentioned Volvo vehicles, and have not yet experienced any of the listed problems, take your car into an authorized Volvo dealership, email the automaker at customercare@volvoforlife.com, or call Volvo at (800) 458-1552 in order to address the potential safety problems.
