Toyota recently announced a recall for approximately 550,000 potential lemon Toyota cars across the world. However, most of the affected vehicles are here in the United States, i.e., more than 400,000 vehicles.
This past Wednesday, Toyota announced in a news release that it is recalling some of its most popular cars because of an engine issue that can result in unexpected steering problems.
Toyota announced plans on replacing the crankshaft pulley on the following affected vehicles: 2004 Avalon, 2004 – 2005 Camry, 2004 – 2005 Highlander, 2004 – 2005 Sienna, 2004 – 2005 Solara, 2006 Highlander HV, 2004 – 2005 Lexus ES 350 and RX 330, and the 2006 RX 400h hybrid.
Apparently, on the affected vehicles, a problem with the crankshaft pulley can result in the belt for the power-steering pump to come off of the pulley, which in turn makes it suddenly more difficult to turn the steering wheel.
Toyota will be notifying consumers who own the affected vehicles by mail shortly. If necessary, Toyota will replace the parts free of charge.
If you own or lease a potential lemon Toyota and you have presented your vehicle to an authorized Toyota dealership for repair attempts with regard to the steering and/or crankshaft pulley, then you may be driving a lemon and you may be entitled to compensation.
