Lemon Law Alert! Ford Under Fire Again!

Ford Motor Company has issued yet another recall in 2011. This time, the company has announced a voluntary recall of approximately 35,000 of its 2010 and 2011 model year Rangers, F-series pick-up trucks, Edge Crossovers and the Lincoln MKX.

This recall has been issued because of defects with the fuel line and electrical systems which can result in a fire.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced that the recall affects certain 2010 model year Ford Rangers that were manufactured between October 15, 2009 and May 19, 2010. This recall is for defects with the fuel line and involves fuel odor and/or fuel leaks from the fuel line in the engine compartment. A protective cover on the engine fuel line may have been improperly installed in these cars. If there is a sufficient fuel leak near an ignition source, a fire may result.

Ford has stated that it will repair the recalled 2010 Ford Rangers for consumers. Owners of the 2010 Ford Rangers can take their car to a local Ford dealership so that Ford can inspect the fuel line for damage and make replacements to the fuel line if necessary.

Additionally, a second defect involves the electrical systems in Ford’s 2011 model year F-series pick-up trucks, Edge Crossovers and Lincoln MKX. These cars were part of an earlier recall. However, the affected cars were inspected by a dealer diagnostic system that was not reading the correct set of characters. As a result, these cars need to be reinspected in order to identify whether they have the potential for an internal electrical short that can cause a fire.

The NHTSA stated that during routine testing with the Integrated Diagnostic System on these 2011 model year cars, the body control modules were not communicating properly, which indicated that a defect with the electrical systems. In the event that there is an internal short in these cars, the cars can overheat and result in a fire.

Specifically, this recall affects the 2011 model year F-series pick-up trucks, Edge Crossovers and Lincoln MKX that were manufactured between October 25, 2010 and November 20, 2010. Ford has announced that owners of the 2011 vehicles can take their vehicles to a local Ford dealership for an inspection and replacements if necessary.

If you are driving a 2010 or 2011 Ford Ranger, F-series pick-up truck, Edge Crossover or Lincoln MKX and have not yet experienced any problems with the electrical system or fuel line, take your vehicle to an authorized Ford dealership in order for them to assess your vehicle and make any necessary repairs.
